LPIA Reopening Protocols Following Tropical Storm Imelda

At present, flight services at Lynden Pindling InternaBonal Airport (LPIA) remain suspended. We conBnue to closely monitor Tropical Storm Imelda in coordinaBon with The Bahamas Meteorological Department, the Disaster Risk Management Authority (DRM Authority), and the Bahamas Air NavigaBon Services Authority (BANSA).

While we await the all clear from The Bahamas Department of Meteorology, it is important to note that this is only the first step in the reopening process. Once issued, our team will conduct comprehensive safety assessments of airport infrastructure, including the airside (runways and taxiways), landside and terminal buildings to ensure condiBons are safe for operaBons to resume. A specialized team is currently staBoned at the airport and is standing by to conduct these inspecBons as soon as it is safe to do so.

While these assessments are being carried out, NAD is simultaneously communicaBng directly with its airport partners and agencies including Air Traffic Services, Bahamas Customs, Bahamas ImmigraBon, the Airport Authority, U.S. Customs and Border ProtecBon (USCBP), all airlines, and other key stakeholders to ensure their readiness to resume operaBons. This coordinaBon is criBcal for the safe processing of passengers and for facilitaBng safe arrivals and departures once operaBons resum

Flights will only resume once these criteria have been met. Based on the latest meteorological data, we anBcipate that this could occur late this evening or early tomorrow. However, this is subject to change depending on the storm’s track and intensity over the next several hours.

We will conBnue to provide updates as new informaBon becomes available. Passengers are strongly encouraged to remain in direct contact with their airlines for the latest flight informaBon and to follow LPIA’s official website and social media channels for operational updates.
