The Bahamas Deepens European Market Engagement at WTM London 2026 to Drive Tourism Growth and Economic Opportunity

Destination advances strategic airline and travel trade partnerships while showcasing the culture, diversity and sustainability initiatives that distinguish The Bahamas

Nassau, The Bahamas (2 November 2026) – The Bahamas is strengthening its presence in the European travel market at World Travel Market (WTM) London 2026, leveraging one of the industry's most influential global gatherings to expand airline and travel trade partnerships, showcase the destination's unique experiences and drive demand that benefits tourism businesses throughout the archipelago.

Led by The Hon. Glenys Hanna Martin, Minister of Tourism, the Bahamian delegation includes Jackson Weech, Director General of Tourism, who is engaging with international partners in support of the Ministry's priorities for destination promotion, market development and sustainable growth.

Europe remains a key market in The Bahamas' strategy to diversify visitor arrivals beyond its largest source market, the United States. European stopover arrivals increased by 4 per cent from January through July 2026 compared with the same period in 2025. Continued engagement in the region supports efforts to attract travellers whose spending contributes to accommodations, dining, transportation, excursions and a wide range of services provided by Bahamian businesses.

Air connectivity and travel distribution are central to the delegation's discussions at WTM London. Engagements with British Airways, American Airlines and Copa Airlines underscore the importance of strong airline partnerships and convenient access to The Bahamas. Meetings with leading travel companies, including Expedia, TUI and DERTOUR Group, are focused on strengthening the destination's visibility across established travel distribution channels.

Together, these relationships play a critical role in enhancing The Bahamas' competitiveness in Europe and converting international interest into travel demand that generates greater economic value for Bahamian businesses, entrepreneurs and communities.

The delegation also includes representatives from the Nassau Paradise Island Promotion Board, the Out Islands Promotion Board and the Grand Bahama Promotion Board, alongside tourism partners Atlantis, British Colonial, Margaritaville, SLS and Majestic Tours. Their participation reflects a broad cross section of the tourism sector, highlighting everything from world class resorts and tours to the distinctive experiences available in Grand Bahama and the Out Islands. This collective presence provides international partners with a comprehensive view of the destination's diverse tourism offering.

"Europe represents an important growth market for The Bahamas and a key pillar of our strategy to expand the destination's global reach and long term tourism resilience," said the Hon. Glenys Hanna Martin, Minister of Tourism. "Our participation at World Travel Market London underscores our commitment to strengthening international partnerships, expanding access to our islands and ensuring that the benefits of tourism growth extend throughout The Bahamas. As travellers increasingly seek authentic, sustainable and culturally rich experiences, The Bahamas is uniquely positioned to deliver exceptional value while creating meaningful economic opportunities for Bahamian businesses, communities and future generations."

Beyond its renowned resorts and natural beauty, The Bahamas is highlighting the culture, heritage and traditions that distinguish the destination in a highly competitive global marketplace. Food, music, art and Junkanoo offer visitors meaningful connections to the country's people and way of life, while the unique character of each island encourages exploration beyond a single destination.

"Tourism must deliver more than visitor numbers. It must create opportunities for Bahamians and support the businesses and communities that contribute to the visitor experience," said Jackson Weech, Director General of Tourism. "Our engagement in Europe is an opportunity to strengthen relationships that help travellers access, discover and choose The Bahamas. We must continue to tell our story authentically, showcase the distinct character of our islands and connect international interest with meaningful opportunities for Bahamians."

The Ministry's destination message, "It's not one island, it's a lifetime of them," reinforces the diversity of experiences available throughout the archipelago. From boating, fishing and diving to heritage, wellness and community based cultural experiences, the Out Islands offer visitors opportunities to discover the unique identity of each destination while supporting tourism activity across a broader range of communities.

Sustainable tourism and community participation remain central to the country's long term vision. The Bahamas will host the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Conference from 24 to 27 May 2027, bringing international attention to destination stewardship and sustainable tourism practices.

Across the archipelago, Destination Stewardship Councils and community initiatives are helping align tourism development with local priorities. In Inagua, a community needs assessment involving more than 100 residents has helped inform local sustainability efforts. Work supporting Cat Island's Healing Pond highlights the importance of protecting natural and cultural assets, while youth programmes focused on local history, bird guiding and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are helping strengthen awareness of the relationship between tourism, culture and environmental stewardship.

The Ministry is also highlighting a calendar of cultural events that provide visitors with opportunities to experience Bahamian traditions throughout the year. These include the Junkanoo parades in Nassau on 26 December 2026 and 1 January 2027, the Bahamian Music & Heritage Festival in Exuma on 2 January 2027, the National Family Island Regatta in Exuma in April 2027 and the Pineapple Festival in Eleuthera in June 2027.

Through its participation at WTM London, The Bahamas is reinforcing its position in the European market while connecting international travel partners with the breadth of experiences available across the country. The focus remains on building relationships that sustain demand, broaden the destination's appeal and create lasting economic and social value for Bahamian businesses and communities.
