NASSAU, Bahamas (24 Feb. 2026) - The Ministry of Tourism, Investments & Aviation (BMOTIA) announces the extension of the deadline for submissions of the UN Tourism Bahamas Sustainable Island Challenge to 27 February 2026.
The Bahamas Sustainable Island Challenge is a startup competition seeking entrepreneurs and tourism stakeholders with smart, sustainable solutions and revolutionary business ideas that can strengthen The Bahamas’ tourism sector while simultaneously addressing environmental and climate-related challenges across the archipelago.
This initiative demonstrates The Bahamas’ leadership as a Small Island Developing State and reflects the shared commitment by MOTIA and UN Tourism to foster innovation that supports resilience, sustainable development and inclusive growth.
The UN Startup Challenge features three categories:
Ocean Conservation - protecting and restoring our marine and coastal ecosystems.
Community-Based Tourism - empowering local communities and promoting authentic experiences.
Green Tech for Sustainable Tourism - technologies that enhance environmental resilience.
Entrepreneurs and tourism stakeholders are encouraged to take advantage of the extended deadline and submit their proposals. The Challenge offers a valuable opportunity to present ideas that can support sustainable tourism development and environmental resilience in The Bahamas.
