The Bahamas Spotlighted in Italy During Geological and Heritage Tourism Presentation
NASSAU, Bahamas (20 May 2026) - The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Investments & Aviation recently participated in a cultural and scientific presentation hosted by Federiciano Travel in Bari, Italy, positioning The Bahamas as a global reference point for geological heritage, marine conservation and heritage tourism.
The April 23rd event centred on the launch of Apulia, The Bahamas of the Dinosaurs, a publication by Bari-based author Alfredo De Giovanni that explores the ancient geological parallels between southern Italy and The Bahamas. Approximately 40 guests attended, including tourism officials, academics, cultural representatives and local media.
The book examines how between 250 and 65 million years ago, much of present-day Italy consisted of carbonate platforms and oceanic basins remarkably similar to those that define The Bahamas today. Through photographs, charts and images of past and present marine bioconstructions, the publication presents The Bahamas as a living scientific reference for understanding the evolution of oceans and marine environments.
The event also sparked discussions surrounding a potential partnership between The Bahamas and Italy. The Commissioner of the Alta Murgia National Park and Murgia UNESCO Geopark, alongside a Professor of Geology from the University of Bari, expressed interest in exploring a twinning initiative with a national park in The Bahamas.
The Bahamas National Trust supported the initiative by contributing 12 complimentary admissions to protected natural areas across the archipelago, including Rand Nature Centre in Grand Bahama, The Retreat Garden in New Providence, Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park, and Leon Levy Native Plant Preserve in Eleuthera.
Federiciano Travel also developed Bahamas holiday packages distributed during the event and displayed in the agency’s windows. The presentation received additional visibility through Il Quotidiano di Bari, PugliaLive.net and partner social media channels.
Attendees included the Honorary Consul of Portugal, Bari’s Culture Councillor, the Councillor for Local Development and Tourism, representatives from publisher ERF Edizioni, and local press and television outlets.
As global travellers increasingly seek destinations rooted in authenticity, sustainability and meaningful discovery, The Bahamas continues to distinguish itself through experiences that connect natural beauty with scientific and cultural significance.
