UAB & Miami (Ohio) Accept 2022 Hometown Lenders Bahamas Bowl Invitations

NASSAU, Bahamas – UAB will represent Conference USA and Miami (Ohio) will represent the Mid-American Conference as both institutions accepted bids today to the 2022 HomeTown Lenders Bahamas Bowl, set for Friday, Dec. 16 in Nassau’s Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium.

The Bahamas Bowl will be played at 11:30 a.m. ET and will be televised on ESPN and broadcast on Bowl Season Radio.

UAB (6-6, 4-4 C-USA) and Miami (6-6, 4-4 MAC) will play for The Prime Minister’s Trophy, awarded to the champion of the Bahamas Bowl. It will be the first trip to the Bahamas for both teams.

The Bahamas Bowl, which will kick off the 2022 Bowl Season, is the longest-running international bowl game in college football history. It debuted in 2014.

The early invitation allows both UAB and Miami additional time to prepare to play in an international destination, including obtaining passports for those who still need them to travel to the Bahamas as well as giving extra time for fans to make their travel plans to Nassau for bowl week.

Tickets to the 2022 Bahamas Bowl can be purchased through the ticket offices of the participating institutions. A reminder that all U.S. citizens who wish to attend the game must have a valid U.S. Passport to enter the Bahamas.

Fans wishing to purchase rooms at the host resort for the Bahamas Bowl, the Atlantis Bahamas, can do so by clicking the Bowl Travel tab at BahamasBowl.com or via the following Link- Click Here

This will be the first meeting between UAB and Miami. Conference USA has won four of the seven matchups against the MAC in the Bahamas Bowl.

UAB will play in its seventh bowl game, while Miami will participate in its 14th bowl game.

UAB (6-6 overall, 4-4 C-USA) is led by interim head coach Bryant Vincent, who takes the Blazers to their seventh consecutive bowl game and second trip to the Bahamas. The Blazers won two of their last three games to attain bowl eligibility.

Miami (6-6 overall, 4-4 MAC) is led by head coach Chuck Martin, who is in his ninth full season (45-58) as a collegiate head coach, all with the Redhawks. Martin is 1-2 in bowl games after leading Miami over North Texas in the 2021 Frisco Bowl. The RedHawks will be playing their first game outside the continental US since a road game at Hawaii on Nov. 17, 2001.

“Congratulations to UAB and Miami OH, along with their student-athletes, coaches, staffs and fans on their invitation to the 2022 Hometown Lenders Bahamas Bowl,” said Lea Miller-Tooley, Executive Director of the Bahamas Bowl. “Both schools had very successful seasons, and we are very excited about the matchup of the UAB and Miami OH on December 16. We know everyone involved with both programs will have a wonderful experience during bowl week in the Bahamas and at the Atlantis Bahamas resort.”
