The Bahamas Meteorological Department, the Disaster Risk Management Authority, and the Bahamas Air Navigation Services Authority continue to monitor Tropical Storm Imelda and will issue the “all clear” once it is safe for flight operations to resume. NAD has confirmed that all airports will reopen only after necessary safety checks and preparations are completed.
Speaking on the airport closures, the Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation, the Honourable I. Chester Cooper, emphasized the priority of public safety: “We are taking every precaution to protect our residents and visitors during Tropical Storm Imelda. Temporary airport closures are necessary to ensure safety and allow authorities to assess conditions thoroughly before flights resume.”
Dr. Kenneth Romer, Director of Aviation and Deputy Director General of Tourism, noted that the coordinated response ensures minimal risk to travelers: “The safety of everyone traveling through our airports is our top priority. NAD, together with meteorological and disaster management teams, is working around the clock to ensure that operations can restart safely as soon as conditions allow.”
Cruise operations at Nassau and other ports are also being monitored for safety. Passengers should check directly with their cruise lines for the latest schedule and operational updates, while airline passengers should follow official updates from NAD’s website at https://nassaulpia.com and social media channels.
