Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine and The Islands of The Bahamas

Statement #2 

NASSAU, Bahamas, July 29, 2020, 7:00 PM EDT – The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism & Aviation is closely tracking the progress of a tropical disturbance, Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine, which is expected to move west-northwestward over the next several days.

A Tropical Storm Warning is now in effect for the southeastern Bahamas including the Acklins, Crooked Island, Long Cay, the Inaguas, Mayaguana, and the Ragged Islands. This means conditions such as strong winds and heavy rainfall are expected somewhere within the warning area within 36 hours. 

Additionally, the following Bahamian islands are now on Tropical Storm Watch with storm conditions expected within the next 48 hours: Central Bahamas, including Cat Island, the Exumas, Long Island, Rum Cay, and San Salvador.

The Bahamas is an archipelago with more than 700 islands and cays, spread over 100,000 square miles; there could be a tropical storm or hurricane warning for parts of the country while other parts remain unaffected.
