Launch of Vacation Express 2016 Summer Program

On Friday, May 27th, Vacation Express, in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and the Grand Bahama Island tourism sector, welcomed 189 passengers aboard its inaugural flight from Dallas Texas to Freeport, Grand Bahama.

The arrival of the new air service was historic as it marked the first non-stop service from Dallas to Grand Bahama since the closure of the Jack Tar Hotel in 1990.

The state-of-the-art Boeing 737-800 series aircraft, operated by Sunwing Airlines, also services the island during the winter season with direct airlift from various Canadian gateways.

Betty Bethel, Director for the Ministry of Tourism Grand Bahama Island said, “The program has grown to include ten US cities, which will help the Island to offset the soft economy in Canada, resulting in the recent decline in travel from this market to Grand Bahama Island.”

Dr. Michael Darville, Minister for Grand Bahama who was present at the inaugural, said that, “The Ministry of Tourism has a very dynamic and robust program to bring people to our airport which results in more tourist dollars being spent on the island.”

While on island, travelers will enjoy a “rolling four”, four days and five nights vacation package, including non-stop flights, round trip airport transfers, accommodations, and a dedicated on-island representative, with optional all-inclusive meal plans.

The Vacation Express Summer program, in its third consecutive year, has increased the number of gateways servicing the Grand Bahama International Airport from eight US cities in 2015 to ten in 2016.

Participating cities include Baltimore, Cincinnati, Houston, Nashville, Newark, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, with new gateways such as Boston, Chicago and Dallas.

The summer program will continue until the end of October, 2016.
