Bahamas Independence Celebrations: Crooked Island

This annual celebration on Crooked Island begins with a combined church service, with all the churches taking part. There will be a raising of The Bahamas flag and the Police retreat drill at night. Family Day festivities at Regatta Park will include live entertainment, reading of Bahamian poems, Bahamian singers, drama/skits, native dishes, remarks by leading citizens in the community and fireworks.

Spring Point Red Cross Fair

All of the communities in Acklins gather for a family fun day of games, rides and live music. Local foods and drinks will be for sale. Proceeds from raffle ticket tickets will support the Red Cross. The fair is held every year on The Bahamas Labour Day holiday, beginning at 12:00 noon.

Crooked Island Homecoming Festival

Descendants, residents, and visitors come together at this annual event in a fun social atmosphere. Activities include a church service, entertainment by Bahamian artists, Old Gospel Concert, beauty pageants, a fashion show, Mr. Homecoming, basketball and volleyball tournaments. Games include Easter Egg Hunt, egg-in-the spoon race, dominoes, apple on a string, Hula-Hoop, conch cracking, balancing food/field basket on head for the elderly ladies. Bahamian food, drinks and pastries will be on sale. This event is held every year on Easter weekend.
