MOTA Revitalizes Customer Service on GBI

As Grand Bahama Island’s Tourism Product is being relaunched, The Ministry of Tourism and Aviation’s (MOTA) Product Development Department officially introduced the first installment of customer service training for frontline employees on Tuesday, September 18th.

With an overall message of actively improving their personal product, Renamae Symonette, Senior Manager, Product Development, MOTA, said, “We hope that this initiative will create higher employee motivation, engagement and increase customer satisfaction while reaching the desired result of raising profits.”

While it is imperative to supplement frontline staff members with unique training modules specifically addressing industry concerns, she added that, “It is our hope to improve skills and/or allow the acquisition of new ones.”

With customer service being one of the most important aspects of the visitor experience, it is believed that this initiative can greatly benefit establishments whereas the quality of service can be significantly improved via proper customer service training for their employees.

As a result, the MOTA’s Training and Education Department, has taken the lead in providing lessons from the newly restructured Bahamahost courses which were incorporated throughout the three- hour sessions.

Karenda Swain, Asst. Manager, Training and Education, MOTA, said, “This is now the time for us to be revitalized. We can change and make the destination a better place for our guests, so this will serve as a reminder on how to consistently provide excellent customer service.”

When questioned about her experience, Virginia Brice, Taino Beach Resort & Clubs, said, “The training was very educating, it taught me a lot about customer service and about going the extra mile for our guests.”

The training began with frontline staff members from Taino Beach Resorts & Clubs and will continue over the course of the next few months reaching the hotel industry, straw vendors and hair braiders.
