Grand Bahama Power Boat Summer Fest Press Conference

On Thursday, April 11th, a press conference was held to announce the 2nd Annual Grand Bahama Power Boat Summer Fest slated for June 7th, 2019 on Taino Beach.

This powerboat event will be hosted by the Prodigy Group Limited in partnership with OBS Marine Limited, Mercury Marine, and the Ministry of Tourism and Aviation (MOTA). National and international boaters are invited to participate in the many sea competitions scheduled to take place that day.

In an effort to make the event an inclusive experience, organizers are also looking forward to featuring authentic Bahamian food vendors and live entertainment with local and international artists on site.

Sasha Pinder, Marketing Manager, Power Boat Race Summer Fest, said, “A special invitation is extended to residents, especially those who enjoyed last year’s event... We look forward to a fun-filled, family oriented, safe event and a memorable power boat summer fest 2019.”

” We’re very happy to see what’s coming this year for the 2nd Annual Grand Bahama Power Boat Summer Fest. This year we’re partnering with Nigel Hook and SilverHook racing, sponsored by the Lucas Oil Team to do a ratified race setting a world record for over the horizon powerboat racing,” added Jaimie Rose, Managing Director, OBS Marine.

Rose also noted that “This is a throwback to the 80’s when powerboat racing was seen in The Bahamas [and] is the first step towards re-introducing world-class offshore powerboat racing into The Bahamas across from Florida [with them] establishing a new world record with the Guinness Book of World Records.”

The group that plans to race from West Palm Beach, Florida to Freeport in less than an hour is looking at completing a 2-leg race from the day of the event to the following day with their return to West Palm Beach, Florida.

Member of Parliament for Central Grand Bahama, Iram Lewis, said, “I’m extremely excited to be here to support this event today. We often talk about there not being enough things to do in Grand Bahama, however, when we do things in Grand Bahama, we do them big, we do them exciting, and I want to encourage all Bahamians and residents of South Florida to be at Taino Beach.”

As Grand Bahama Island has been in much need of new, innovative events, Nuvolari Chotoosingh, Manager, Niche Markets (MOTA), said, “I’d like to congratulate the Prodigy Group for staging this very exciting event for the second year. I’d also like to thank them for seeking out the Ministry of Tourism to become a partner in this initiative as you all well know that we seek to put on all types of events particularly through the Niche Markets Department.”

“We want to have exciting events that capture the imagination of our guests who come to our island to participate in them and also those who are already visiting to come and participate in these events.”

Chotoosingh noted that as powerboat racing was a big event for Grand Bahama during the 70’s and 80’s, the Grand Bahama Power Boat Summer Fest will continue to have the support of the Ministry of Tourism and Aviation as he helps with growing and promoting the event on a global scale.

The Grand Bahama Power Boat Summer Fest will begin at 12 noon on June 7th with races scheduled for 3 p.m. on Taino Beach. The event is sponsored by Mercury Marine, OBS Marine, Aliv, and the Ministry of Tourism and Aviation.
