Alert #4 Tropical Storm Dorian Issue

Alert #4 on tropical storm Dorian issued by the Bahamas Department of meteorology Wednesday, 28th August 2019

At 6:30am edt. Hurricane models during the past 24 hours continue to agree on a track that will steer tropical storm Dorian well to the east of the island of the southeast Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands. Therefore, tropical storm warnings for the southeast Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Bahamas are discontinued. Satellite images and Doppler radar data indicate that Dorian is becoming better organized and remains a compact tropical storm with winds at about 50 knots. However, hurricane models show Dorian increasing to hurricane intensity, and in size as it passes to the east of the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands. Therefore, severe weather conditions could be experienced at times on Friday over the southeast Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands, and on Saturday and Sunday over the central and northwest Bahamas. Mariners are also asked to exercise caution for swells.

The department of meteorology will continue to closely monitor the development and movement of Dorian and issue news items. Residents throughout the Bahamas are encouraged to remain vigilant and prepared to take any necessary action should the need arise.
