1st Annual Powerboat Race Summer Fest Introduced to Grand Bahama Island

As the process of revitalization on Grand Bahama Island continues, the number of events being added to the calendar year has significantly increased to further stimulate the local economy.

With new ideas being brought to the forefront, the goal to bring more visitors to our shores has become the prime selling point for events currently being endorsed.

Consequently, the Ministry of Tourism & Aviation's (MOTA) involvement in the official introduction of the first annual Power Boat Race Summer Fest scheduled from Friday, May 25th to Sunday, June 3rd was only fitting.

As the event is set to include several days for local excursions, a fishing tournament, an all-white party, boat party, beach party, a live concert, powerboat race and the sale of local cuisine by numerous vendors, the projected amount of business dispersed throughout the economy is expected to significantly benefit all parties involved.

Jay Philippe, Asst. Manager, Niche Markets, MOTA, said, "We would like to congratulate the Prodigy Group on planning this event and we hope that it's successful. As it pertains to the Ministry of Tourism, attracting visitors to our shores is our mandate and with the group attracting visitors from South Florida- our main market, it will be essential for us to maintain our product."

He added that "With visitors also travelling to Grand Bahama from Abaco, Bimini, and Nassau, it gives life to Grand Bahama in that it injects new money into our economy where vendors can benefit throughout the entire week of the event."

Regarding hosting the week-long event, Bianca Strachan, Public Relations Officer, Prodigy Group Entertainment, said, "We decided to embark on a new business venture, where all of Grand Bahama can come out and support us."

"This is a family-friendly event, so we want persons to experience a powerboat race and a race course that have never happened on Grand Bahama Island before. We are going to put on a wonderful show and we are encouraging our local boaters to take part in our race."
