Runners from 13 countries already registered for Marathon Bahamas
Thousands of runners will lace up their running shoes and compete in the Sunshine Insurance Marathon Bahamas Race Weekend in Nassau, Bahamas on January 13 & 14, 2018, with visitors coming from as far away as Saudi Arabia.
The race weekend comprises of a 5K Susan G Komen Bahamas Race for the Cure and a half, full and relay marathon that promises to be bigger than ever this year.
According to Rogan Smith, Public Relations Chair for Susan G Komen Bahamas and Marathon Bahamas, more than 2000 participants are expected to take part in the weekend of events.
“We have runners that come from all over the world each year. We’re anticipating about 2500 participants this year for both events based on previous attendance, and we’re hopeful that the number will increase,” Smith said.
Visitors from the United States and Canada will join Bahamian participants in the always exciting Race for the Cure. Runners from The Bahamas, the United States, Canada, Germany, Brazil, United Kingdom, Poland, Colombia, France, Hong Kong, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland and Trinidad & Tobago will hit the pavement for Marathon Bahamas.
Smith urged persons to come for the race but stay for the party.
“The weekend starts on Friday when we have our VIP race reception that's held at our Chairman’s home. The Race for the Cure that Saturday ends on Paradise Island and the survivors’ ceremony is really the highlight of the event where we celebrate those who have won their battle with breast cancer as well as those who have lost their fight, just to honour them. We will have a number of local celebrities who are going to be there including Patrice Murrell, Fanshawn and Stilett and a lot of other performers who have contacted us to say they want to get involved,” she said.
Following Marathon Bahamas, Runners can enjoy a beautiful view and a dip in the ocean at the finish line, along with a fun health fair with great giveaways and health screenings.
The Bahamas Race for the cure, which is normally held on Saturday, is an opportunity for people of all ages to celebrate breast cancer survivors and honor those who lost the fight with the disease. Registering for the race, is also a way to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer.
Marathon Bahamas, held on Sunday of the race weekend, has become one of the most anticipated sporting events in the country. It is an event for all fitness levels and is ideal for families and colleagues. The marathon typically features runners from 25 countries and 31 states in the United States.
