Goombay Summer Festival Finale

Grand Bahama Island's signature summer festival came to a close with a culmination of electric performances on Thursday, July 27th on Taino Beach.

With hundreds of residents and visitors flocking weekly to the festival site to enjoy the island's cultural festivities, Goombay Summer Festival proved to be another successful event for the Ministry of Tourism and Aviation (MOTA).

Every week in July, guests and residents on the island were treated to a unique opportunity to experience authentic Bahamian culture via local cuisine, arts and crafts, and entertainment.

Bahamian artists such as Elon Moxey, Dyson Knight, Geno D, D MAC, Ira Storr and the Spank Band, Veronica Bishop, Stileet, and KB staged the best and most energetic performances for the crowd to enjoy. In fact, this year's lineup of performances kept crowds entertained until 12 midnight, when they left the venue in high anticipation of the following week's event.

As a result of the free transportation provided by MOTA, a total of 1248 visitors took part in this year’s Goombay Summer Festival. Consequently, residents were given the unique opportunity to learn about our visitors from Europe, Canada, and the United States through guests’ participation in trivia and on-stage performances.

In addition, crew from the US navy ship- USS Hue City made a special appearance at the festival during the third week of the event where some members took part in limbo, conch and coconut demonstrations, and the nature walk and bush tea tasting.

With Burnshouse/Kalik also celebrating their 30th anniversary, the normally cultural themed event and entertainment was given an added push due to the company's partnership.
