Bahamas Shoot 3D Archery Tournament Hosted In Freeport

The Inaugural Bahamas Shoot 3D Archery Tournament took place on Grand Bahama Island on Saturday, November 3rd at the Pirates Cove Zipline and Waterpark facility.

The event, which featured archers from the United States and New Providence, was a unique experience where participants were able to aim and shoot at three dimensional animals positioned around the park.

Antonio Abraham, Director, Bahamas Field Archery Association (BFAA), said, “We had a lot of positive feedback and that’s very important because a lot of these people -they compete in major international archery tournaments and to hear their satisfaction with what we were able to create here is a really big compliment and it’s very encouraging.”

Though this was the first time the event had been hosted on Grand Bahama Island, Abraham said that “Grand Bahama is a better location for this type of event and I saw the potential in having a really good event because there’s a few things that we just can't get in Nassau.”

Brandy Grenette, who has been competing in archery competitions for approximately 10 years, said, “To be in a beautiful place and shoot archery [is] the main reason [for coming]. We would love to come back again and since it’s a new event, I know that next year is going to be even better and it would be fine to invite my friends [who] are always jealous when I come back from these trips.”

As Sports Tourism is the fastest growing sector in the tourism industry, the Ministry of Tourism & Aviation was elated to partner with the Bahamas Field Archery Association who brought something fresh to the events calendar on Grand Bahama Island.

With long-term strategic goals being product diversification and establishing Grand Bahama Island as the home for sporting events and festivals, unique events such as the archery tournament will ultimately attract more visitors to the island.

Due to the domino effect, when competitors participate in destination events, they tend to travel with family and friends who can enjoy the island’s offerings over the short period of time.

As a result, approximately 16 archers inclusive of their families and friends were able to take advantage of the many product offerings on Grand Bahama Island.

The Ministry of Tourism & Aviation looks forward to the continuous growth of the Bahamas Shoot 3D Archery Tournament in the coming years and wishes to thank Mr. Abraham, Pelican Bay Hotel, Balearia Caribbean, the YMCA, Bahamasair, and Pirates Cove for hosting and sponsoring this unique event.
