Bahamas nominated for 9 World Travel Awards

The Islands of The Bahamas are once again in the running for several prestigious titles at the World Travel Awards (WTA), going up against several hospitality leaders across the region.

The Bahamas has been nominated in nine categories for the 23rd annual World Travel Awards -Caribbean region, including Caribbean’s Leading Beach Destination, Cruise Destination, Cruise Port Destination, Dive Destination, Honeymoon Destination, Luxury Island Destination and Romantic Destination.

Additionally, The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism has been nominated for the Caribbean’s Leading Tourist Board.

“We’re thrilled to receive these distinguished acknowledgments from the World Travel Awards, especially in such a competitive market,” said Joy Jibrilu, Director General at The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism.

“Being nominated in nine of the Caribbean’s Leading categories is a true testament to the diligence and commitment of our team, and of course, all those in the country’s tourism industry in providing the highest quality travel experiences for visitors to The Bahamas.”

WTA was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the tourism industry.

Each year WTA covers the globe with a series of regional Gala Ceremonies staged to recognise and celebrate individual and collective successes within each key geographical region.

Today, the World Travel Awards brand is recognised globally as the ultimate hallmark of quality, with winners setting the benchmark to which all others aspire.

Bahamians and fans of The Islands Of The Bahamas all over the world are encouraged to vote online at www.WorldTravelAwards.com/Vote. The deadline to vote for The Bahamas in nine categories is July 31, 2016.

Winners will be announced on September 17, 2016 and honored at the Caribbean & North America Gala Ceremony at Sandals Ochi Beach Resort in Ocho Rios, Jamaica.

Last year at the 2015 WTA Caribbean & North America Gala Ceremony at Sandals Emerald Bay Resort in Exuma, Minister of Tourism Obediah Wilchcombe was named Caribbean’s Leading Travel Personality of the Year, while The Bahamas was voted Caribbean’s Leading Luxury Island Destination.

WTA also named The Islands of The Bahamas 2015 Leading Wedding Destination at the WTA’s global Gala Ceremony in Morocco back in December.
