Wilchcombe returns as Minister of Tourism

Prime Minister Perry Christie announced Thursday that Obie Wilchcombe will return to his Cabinet as Minister of Tourism & Aviation, and Mr. Wilchcombe was sworn in the same day at Government House.

Prime Minister Christie pointed to the great significance of the tourism sector at the swearing in ceremony of Minister Wilchcombe and seven other government ministers. He emphasized the importance o experience in moving forward with tourism initiatives.

“My Ministry appointments, therefore, reflect a very high premium that I have placed on prior experience and a proper track record in leading the war against crime and leading the campaign to revive our declining tourism industry. I need Ministers who can hit the ground running,” he said.

Other Cabinet appointments announced Thursday were:

* Dr. Bernard J. Nottage – Minister of National Security and Government Leader in the House of Assembly 

* Jerome Fitzgerald – Minister of Education, Science & Technology 

* Ryan Pinder – Minister of Financial Services 

* Senator Allyson Maynard Gibson – Attorney General & Minister of Legal Affairs 

* Damian Gomez – Minister of State in the Ministry of Legal Affairs 

* Michael Halkitis – Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance 

* Senator Keith Bell – Minister of State in the Ministry of National Security 

The new appointments join Prime Minister Christie as Minister of Finance and Deputy Prime Minister Philip Brave Davis as Minister of Works and Urban Development.

Minister Wilchcombe previously served as Minister of Tourism in the Christie administration of 2002 – 2007.
