Tourism ministry begins skill-building series

A series of skill-building and professional workshops are in store for the senior management team of the Ministry of Tourism & Aviation as the organization equips them to deal with business evolutions, Tourism Permanent Secretary Hyacinth Pratt announced Wednesday.

Ms. Pratt’s comment came as the senior management team took part in a three-day workshop to re-enforced human resources skills. The recent workshop was just the first of many, Ms. Pratt said.

She shared a list of attributes and activities that are necessary to ensure that the supervisors successfully carry out their tasks.

“You must be understanding, be able to solve problems, be supportive of those needs of those you supervise as well as the needs of the organization,” she said. “You need to be able to motivate your staff. You must realize that you are unable to do everything and must therefore delegate some responsibilities and empower those who you supervise.”
Ms. Pratt urged the senior managers to pay careful attention to supporting their staff’s job satisfaction, recognizing workers for good performance, providing opportunities for training and increasing staff members’ roles in making decisions.
