Now, Abaco is getting even more attention due to the SCRUBS episodes. The show, hosted by Mario Lopez, gave two lucky viewers a trip to Abaco that includes roundtrip airfare, a stay at Hope Town Harbour Lodge and dinner at Harbour’s Edge Restaurant and Bar.
Filming for the SCRUBS episodes took place June 22-27, 2008 on Elbow Cay. The show filmed in locales including: Harbour’s Edge restaurant; Hope Town Harbour Lodge and The Lodge beach; the Hope Town Medical Center; and The Lodge dock. The story plays out with humorous universal messages about friendship and love between the cast of characters. The episode not only captures the beauty, culture and people of The Bahamas, but also includes several verbal mentions and visual branding of The Bahamas and Hope Town, Abaco. Additionally, there are appearances by several Bahamians as cast extras, and two Bahamian songs – “Gatta Find My Woman” by Jay Mitchell and “For You” by Lady E – are integrated into the show’s music.
The on-site filming of SCRUBS was a collaborative opportunity between The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, the Bahamas Film Commission and the Abaco Tourism Office. The Ministry of Tourism continues forging ahead with new public relations initiatives to attract the attention of network television producers, filmmakers, commercial developers and photographers in an effort to bring major productions to The Islands Of The Bahamas.
