Visiting the undiscovered Bahamas by Eileen Ogintz

Eileen Ogintz

Nationally syndicated [US] columnist Eileen Ogintz visited The Abacos on a Learn to Dive press trip October 17-22, 2007. She reported on the experience in her column and a four-part blog series – giving Green Turtle Cay, Brendal’s Dive Center and The Islands of The Bahamas her well-respected recommendation as a premiere family vacation destination.

The column has already appeared on SmarterTravel.com, which receives 1,444,566 visitors per month, and is usually picked up on CNN.com, the Miami Herald, the New York Daily News, the Dallas Morning News, the Stamford Advocate and many other high circulation publications and Web sites.

In addition to excellent print coverage, Ms. Ogintz’ online blog is visited by more than 15,000 people per month. As a family travel expert, she’s been interviewed on the Today Show, Oprah and Good Morning America.

Eileen touts the Out Islands are an untapped family vacation destination and learning to dive on the Bahamas’ colorful coral reefs is a not-to-be-missed adventure. Here are a few favorite lines from the column and blog:

Isn’t that what parents want vacations to be some old-fashioned family time doing something that’s fun for all? This is the kind of place where you have a gloriously empty beach to toss a football with your son or play Frisbee with your daughter, where you don?t have to worry about anyone ruining their sand castles. You can teach your kids to fish and eat their catch for dinner. There?s a barracuda over there, a baby turtle over here, a stingray, another grouper, all varieties of fish in all sizes and colors – deep blue, yellow, brown, silver and all kinds of pretty coral. I don’t know where to look first.
