New Cruise Line Promises Cheap Bahamas Jaunts

Florida’s got a new cruise line in town. The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that Celebration Cruise Line will begin operations out of Port Everglades on Monday, making three-day voyages to Nassau, the Bahamas.
The trips will be made aboard the the 1,500-passenger MS Bahamas Celebration, which was purchased last year for $50 million and given a $10 million upgrade that included the addition of a pool deck. The ships features 500 cabins, four restaurants, a two-story, 630-seat nightclub, multiple lounges, a casino, a new spa and fitness room and a pirate-themed pool with a 180-foot slide for children, the Sun-Sentinel says.
Celebration is said to be a successor to Imperial Majesty Cruise Line, which used its old Regal Empress to sail the same two- and three-night Nassau, Bahamas, itineraries up until this month. Moreover, Celebration is run by former Imperial Majesty President Martin Salzedo and CFO Edward Levitan.
Celebration is making a move into a brave new world where cruise lines have been smiting from the recent economic environment. Nevertheless, Celebration will look to gain a foothold in the short Caribbean market, competing against the likes of Carnival and Royal Caribbean.
Pricing will begin at $199 per person for a three-night weekend cruise, but fares as low as $119 are said to be offered.
