Grand Bahama Island Delegates Visits to Solidify Tourism & Economic Partnership

St. Lucie County is the destination for Bahamian officials representing the Ministry of Tourism of Grand Bahama Island and the Islands of the Bahamas. In addition, the Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce of Grand Bahama Island and the Tourism Board of Grand Bahama Island will also be visiting St. Lucie County… The delegates will be hosted by the St. Lucie County Tourist Development Council and Comet Creative, Inc., and will meet with St. Lucie County Commissioners, elected officials and staff from the Cities of Fort Pierce and Port St. Lucie, as well as the business community. The aim of their visit is to solidify the Memorandum of Understanding signed in December 2008, through the official launching of a business and tourism partnership between St. Lucie County and Grand Bahama Island.

The Bahamian delegates have a packed itinerary that includes a strategic planning meeting with local officials and business leaders, as well as tours throughout the two cities, a meeting onsite and review of the strategic plans for the County’s airport and port. The delegation will end their visit with a Grand Bahama ‘village’ at the local Friday Festival on the water in Downtown Fort Pierce on March 6. The Grand Bahama ‘village’ will feature a joint tourist information table, Junkanoo dancers, an entertainer and two craft vendors from the island. The Sandhurst Hotel in Fort Pierce will be hosting the craft vendors and the entertainer from Grand Bahama Island.

The delegation will be staying at the new Residence Inn by Marriott in Port St. Lucie from March 4 – 7, 2009. During their visit they will be attending the March 5 exhibition game between the Italian World Baseball Classic team and the New York Mets. During the game, the ten winners from the Ultimate New York Mets Spring Training Beach Giveaway promotion by the St. Lucie County Tourist Development Council, PGA Golf Club and Grand Bahama Island will also be present for a VIP all access tour and a barbeque. The winners will also receive a free round of golf at PGA and a free flight to Grand Bahama Island as part of the giveaway package. As well as superior accommodation in Grand Bahama Island at the Pelican Bay at Lucaya, and Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach.
