Grand Bahama gets new ferry service in time for Christmas

Balearia Bahamas Express will begin passenger service between Port Everglades, Florida and Freeport Harbour on Friday, December 9, just in time for the Christmas season.

Bahamas Express will essentially fill the void of the recently departed Discovery Cruise Line, but with the added benefit that cruising time will be approximately two and a half hours versus five to seven hours. This high-speed catamaran sails at a speed of 32 knots, and has the capacity to hold 463 passengers, 80 vehicles and cargo.

It will add approximately 135,000 seats annually from Ft. Lauderdale – equivalent to a jumbo jet arriving six days per week.

The Bahamas Express will depart Port Everglades at 10am, arrive at Freeport Harbour at approximately 12:30pm, and will depart Freeport Harbour at 7:30pm, arriving at Port Everglades at approximately 10pm. Two types of roundtrip fares will be offered from Grand Bahama:
Economy Class at $150 and First Class at $180 per round trip ticket, plus taxes. Children, six years old and younger may travel at no charge.

Bookings can be made by at www.ferryexpress.com, or by calling travel agents.
