This annual sailing competition features a variety of festive activities, in addition to the racing with Class A, B, and C sloops. There will be a float parade from the airport to the Regatta Park, bus tours throughout the island, boat curing, boat riding with performances by Bahamian artists and other activities on board, a fashion show, beauty pageant, local food and drinks for sale, fun and games for the entire family - such as plaiting of the pole, climbing the greasy pole - and contests like conch cracking, bark beating, dancing and much more, plus an award ceremony and skippers' party.

This sports Tourism event, brings domestic and international visitors to the island and it generates income for the locals. Class A, B and C Class sailing sloops are invited for competition and the onshore activities include live band performances, cultural shows, native food and drinks.

This festival encourages San Salvadorians worldwide to come home and celebrate Discovery Day, which commemorates the first landfall of the great navigator Christopher Columbus, on October 12, 1492.

This sailing regatta is the second largest in The Bahamas, next to the National Family Island Regatta held in The Exumas, and it is the major fund-raiser on the island. Skippers from throughout The Bahamas compete for cash prizes and trophies in A, B and C class races.
