Eager to try their hand at the variety of career opportunities that are available in Tourism sector, one hundred and ten apprentices drawn from six hundred plus applicants, crossed the threshold of approximately sixty five businesses after a grueling selection and orientation process, which began in December 2009. The main thrust of the programme was to expose these young prospects to the broadest public and private sector experience - earning a salary, while learning the business of Tourism. Over the six month period, business owners and tourism executives were well pleased. The highly motivated and talented Apprentices who were able to adapt to their different work environments, looked forward to their two month rotations applying themselves at every stage of the journey. They certainly won the admiration of Robert Sands, President, Bahamas Hotel Association who was the first to say that the 2010 Apprentices' are now a coveted group of marketable, prospective employees. So successful was this initiative, the Hon. Minister of Tourism & Aviation declared that he and the other employers have made a pact to consult the Apprentice Database as a first option to fill vacancies. Many of the Apprentices spoke and wrote about their experiences and we invite you to click through to some of their compelling stories here at tourismtoday.com. |
